The border in the village

A 200 meter length of the country roads 112 / 267 , the Opperzau (Windeck) and Oppertsau (Fürthen) separates, not only the town boundary is, but at the same time the border between countries North Rhine-Westphalia and Rheinland-Pfalz . In addition, the street has its own street name for each side: Siegstraße for the Oppertsauer side, Fürthener Straße for the Opperzauer side.

Despite the state border running through the town, there are joint activities and associations, such as the Opperzau / Oppertsau citizens' association . The reason for the division is controversial sovereign rights from the 13th century, which were only settled through the Siegburg settlement in 1604. Due to the separation in the middle of the place, there is often confusion among strangers despite the different spellings.

Residents

The village belonged to the parish of Rosbach and at times to the mayor's office Dattenfeld .

In 1830 the place had 130 inhabitants.

In 1845 the place was a hamlet and had 148 inhabitants in 24 houses, 17 of them Catholic and 131 Protestant. In 1863 there were 179 people. In 1888 there were 213 residents in 41 houses.

363 people lived here in 1962 and 362 in 1976.

traffic

Opperzau is on the country roads 112 and 267. Until 1994 there was also a stop on the victory route , but this was abandoned due to the low frequency of traffic. The only public transport connections consist of bus routes 260, 262 and 263, which are only intended for school traffic. They are operated by the local bus company Wilhelm Marenbach.
