history

Oppertsau was first mentioned in a document in the 15th century. The division of the place goes back to historical territorial disputes between the Windeck office and the county of Sayn , which could be settled in 1604 through the Siegburg settlement . The northern part of the village came to the Windeck district, while the southern part remained in the County of Sayn.

Oppertsau belonged to the parish of Hamm and formed with the villages of Fürthen, Kappenstein, Mümmelbach, Opsen and Walbach an administrative district in the county of Sayn-Hachenburg called "Sende" . In 1799 this county fell to the princes of Nassau-Weilburg , and from 1806 Oppertsau was part of the Duchy of Nassau .

As a result of the agreements reached at the Congress of Vienna , the region around Oppertsau was ceded to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815. The community of Fürthen with the district Oppertsau was assigned to the mayor's office Hamm in the Altenkirchen district , which belonged to the Koblenz administrative district . From 1822 until the end of the Second World War, Oppertsau belonged to the Rhine Province and since then to the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
