The Vectus Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH ( Vectus , from Latin vehi = to drive ) was a transport company based in Limburg an der Lahn . In 2004 it took over regional traffic on a route network that extends in the Lahn Valley , the Westerwald and the Taunus and is known as the Westerwald-Taunus network . The operational center of the network was Limburg.

founding

The company was founded on July 23, 2003. Its shareholders were the Hessische Landesbahn GmbH (HLB) with 74.9% and the Westerwaldbahn GmbH with 25.1% of the shares. As a bidding consortium, both partners had won the bid for a 218 km long rail network in the states of Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate for a period of ten years against numerous competitors - including DB Regio . The transport contract was signed on January 10, 2003 with the principals Zweckverband Eisenbahn Personenennahverkehr Rheinland-Pfalz Nord (SPNV Nord) and Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV). The SPNV Nord also acted for parts of the route that are located in southern North Rhine-Westphalia . Vectus took over operations at the timetable change in December 2004 with 28 new vehicles and around 70 employees.

resolution

In October 2012, the Hessische Landesbahn was awarded the contract to operate the Westerwald network in the future, which was still served by Vectus until the ten-year contract expired in 2014. Line 20/21 was integrated into the Taunus network, which the Hessische Landesbahn received by direct award for another five years. The Rhineland-Palatinate part of the Lahntalbahn (line 25) went to DB Regio AG as part of a new line network. The Vectus Verkehrsgesellschaft with its operations center in Limburg was dissolved. All railcars were taken over by the Hessische Landesbahn and are only occasionally serviced in the Limburg workshop. In addition to a new paintwork in HLB style, acoustic signals for disabled travelers and a wheelchair space with a call button were attached to the doors. The ticket machines in the trains have been renewed and fundamental software updates have been carried out, and ticket offers that were not available from Vectus Verkehrsgesellschaft, such as the Quer-Durch-Land-Ticket or the Rhineland-Palatinate Ticket + Luxembourg, are now also available at the Ticket machines available on the trains. Also were canceling for integrated ticketing of the transport association Rhein-Sieg and the traffic community Westphalia south attached and new stops display panels in vehicles. In addition, the 1st class compartment was reduced from 16 to eight seats.

stretch

The routes operated by Vectus were - with the regional train numbering of the RMV :

At the Limburg junction, the Vectus trains connected to the Deutsche Bahn trains; it operates the Main-Lahn-Bahn to Frankfurt / Main and regional express trains on the Lahntalbahn. There was also a connection from Limburg (Lahn) train station to Limburg Süd train station and direct connection to Montabaur train station on the Limburg-Staffel – Siershahn (Unterwesterwaldbahn) line and in Wiesbaden .

The company covered a total of 2.4 million train kilometers per year, using ten Alstom Coradia LINT 27 railcars and 18 Alstom Coradia LINT 41 railcars . All vehicles were built in 2004. After the delivery of the first vehicles, some were already on the Limburg – Wiesbaden route and other routes in summer 2004.

In addition, Vectus had received four Stadler GTW from the parent company HLB , as compensation for three LINT 27 handed over to HLB. A fifth GTW strengthened the fleet, as LINT the vectus were successively converted into HLB vehicles that were missing during the conversion .
