Under the brand Dreiländerbahn ( own spelling 3LänderBahn ) the HLB Hessenbahn operates several branch lines in Hesse , North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate , from which the name is derived. The clients are the local passenger transport associations Westphalia South (ZWS) and SPNV-Nord ( Rheinland-Pfalz-Takt ) as well as the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV). The brand was introduced when the timetable changed on December 12, 2004 and was used by DB Regio NRW for ten years . On December 14, 2014, HLB took over the operation and the brand after winning a tender. At the same time, the Dreiländerbahn network was expanded to include two lines in Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse.

54 stations in 18 municipalities are served. The total length of the route network is around 288 km with a good 1.8 million train kilometers annually.

The following routes are served by the Dreiländerbahn:

line Surname Line route Course book range Remarks
RB 29 Unterwesterwaldbahn Siershahn - Montabaur - Limburg (Lahn) 629
RB 90 Westerwald-Sieg Railway Siegen Hbf - Betzdorf (Sieg) - Au (Sieg) - Altenkirchen (Westerw) - Limburg (Lahn) 460 , 461
  • Monday – Friday 2 × from / to Kreuztal.
  • Amplifier between Betzdorf and Altenkirchen.
RB 92 Biggesee Express Finnentrop - Attendorn - Olpe 442
RB 93 Rothaarbahn Betzdorf (Sieg) - Siegen Hbf - Kreuztal - Bad Berleburg 460 , 443 Monday-Saturday 2 × from Au (Sieg)
RB 95 Sieg-Dill-Bahn Siegen Hbf - Haiger - Dillenburg 445
RB 96 Hellertalbahn Betzdorf (Sieg) - Herdorf - Neunkirchen (Kr Siegen) - Haiger - Dillenburg 462

In addition, the railway makes individual journeys on the Ruhr-Sieg route between Siegen and Finnentrop (RB 91) at the edge of the day .

The client, Zweckverband SPNV Nord, responsible for the route offered by the Dreiländerbahn in Rhineland-Palatinate, is looking into merging the Hellertalbahn (RB 96) and the Sieg-Dill-Bahn (RB 95) into a common line, as this will provide direct, transfer-free travel options between the stations the Hellertalbahn and the city of Siegen. A short-term realization is currently unlikely due to the lack of a train crossing facility in Allendorf (Dillkr). In addition, the current travel time from, for example, Holzhausen to Siegen with a change in Haiger is only 44 minutes. The travel time for the planned connection-free connection via Dillenburg, however, would be around 60–65 minutes.

vehicles

The train runs mainly on non-electrified branch lines. Therefore it only has modern diesel multiple units . The vehicle fleet includes Alstom Coradia LINT railcars of the DB series 640 (LINT 27) and 648 (LINT 41), as well as Stadler GTW 2/6 of the DB series 646, which among other things have seats with armrests and compartments with tables on the 1st floor Class, a video surveillance system and two multi-purpose compartments (e.g. for bicycles or strollers). Since there are no stationary ticket machines at many railway stations, the vehicles have mobile ticket machines as well as validators for combined tickets of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg (VRS) and the Westphalian tariff . At stations with stationary ticket sales, tickets must be purchased at the train station. The Dreiländerbahn also offers to call a taxi as a connection to the train station. The railcars of the Dreiländerbahn are refueled in Finnentrop , Dillenburg and Siegen , where the external cleaning also takes place.
