Kaden is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Westerburg .

geography

Kaden is located southwest of Westerburg in the valley of the Elbbach . The districts of Elben, Im Tanneck and Schacht Anna also belong to Kaden .

Neighboring communities are Härtlingen , Kölbingen and Brandscheid .

history

The first written mention of the submerged district of "Meiningen" took place in 1295. Elben was first mentioned in 1417. After belonging to the Duchy of Nassau , the place came to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1866 .

The district "Grube Anna" emerged from a lignite mine of the same name in the Westerwald lignite mining area after its closure in 1924.

Until 1936 the spelling for the place was "Caden".

On January 1, 1975, the suffix "(Oberwesterwaldkreis)" was deleted.
