history
In 1215, the nobility of Molsberg donated the Kirburg parish to found a monastery. At the place that is still called Zum Altenkloster today , a chapel reminds of the past. Today it belongs to the local community of Neunkhausen. For the monks at that time, the harsh climate of the area known as the Neunkhäuser Plateau was too harsh. They moved on and settled at the Nister , where they built the Marienstatt Monastery .
The place Neunkhausen was first mentioned in a document in 1259. All details and information about Neunkhausen in the Middle Ages come from documents from the Marienstatt monastery. Neunkhausen is the birthplace of the journalist Johannes Gross (1932–1999).
