Rückeroth (dialect: Reggert, Reegert ) is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Selters (Westerwald) .

Geographical location

Rückeroth is one kilometer from Herschbach and four kilometers from Selters (Westerwald) .

history

In the border area of ​​the Engersgau there was clearing early on ; Rückeroth was first mentioned in a document in 1259 . In 1346 a high court was set up by the Counts of Wied . The church dominates the place from a hill. In the center of the village is the Protestant church , which was built between the years 1240 and 1250: a late Romanesque pillar basilica with a west tower, which was changed in the 19th century by demolishing the side aisles and walling up the arcades , thus greatly changing the original character has been. The baroque redesign of the interior with a stucco mirrored ceiling and west gallery was carried out according to the inscription in 1736. The organ (around 1810) was made by Konrad Embach from Rauenthal .

The Protestant parish church in the center of the village is originally a late Romanesque pillar basilica that was built towards the middle of the 13th century. Its west tower was remodeled at the beginning of the 19th century.

Church linden tree

This mighty old linden tree stands at the entrance to the church, directly above the retaining wall, on the edge of the churchyard. The tree shows a very peculiar growth form: seven trunks grow out of a short, thick trunk and together form the crown. The beginning of the growth of the seven tribes is assumed to be in the 15th century. They may have emerged from the root of a court linden tree that had previously stood here and died . The age of the summer linden tree , designated as a natural monument , is estimated to be 400–600 years. Their short, compact main trunk has a circumference of about 10 meters.

Regular events

In addition, there is a rifle club and a table tennis club in Rückeroth . Every summer tractor enthusiasts from the area meet for the “ Oldtimertreffen ” on the village square. Since 2007, after a break of several years, the annual fair has been held again on the weekend of the third Sunday in July.
