Heilberscheid is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Montabaur community .

Geographical location

The community is located in the Westerwald between Koblenz and Limburg an der Lahn in the Nassau Nature Park . The Gelbach and its tributary, the Eisenbach, flow in the northwestern municipality .

history

Heilberscheid was first mentioned in a document in 1362.

In the west of today's municipality was the village of Sespenroth , whose residents emigrated to America in 1853.

Municipal council

The council in Heilberscheid consists of twelve council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Markus Thomé became mayor of Heilberscheid in June 2014. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office for another five years with 84.44% of the vote.

Thomé's predecessor Axel Braun had held the office for 15 years and did not run again in 2014.

The description of the coat of arms reads: In the middle of the coat of arms is a figure of the Madonna placed in a Marian grotto with the model of the Heilberscheider Marienkapelle (built 1889-1891). The hornbeam branches refer to the considerable stocks of hornbeam in the Heilberscheider forest. The colors of the background, red and silver, are the colors of the coat of arms of Kurtrier .

The next motorway junction is Diez on the A3 Cologne - Frankfurt am Main , about five kilometers away.

Heilberscheid is connected to public transport by the Rhein-Mosel-Bus -Linie 450 (Limburg - Diez - Nentershausen - Montabaur) , the buses run from Monday to Friday, since January 1, 2017 the tariff of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein- Moselle (VRM) .
