Lochum is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Hachenburg community .
Geographical location
The place is northeast of Koblenz on the southern height of the valley of the Nister near the Westerwald lake district . Neighboring places are Alpenrod in the north, Stockum-Püschen and Rotenhain in the west and Linden in the southwest. Lochum is surrounded by the Monsberg ( 468 m above sea level ) in the north and the Wildenhahn ( 497 m above sea level ) in the south of the town.
history
Lochum was first mentioned in a document in 1048. The name is probably based on the Old High German word loh for small forest .
Lochum was divided into a larger Saynic and a smaller Nassau part by the second half of the 16th century at the latest , which at times nonetheless formed a common community. Ecclesiastically, the place was part of the Rotenhain parish until the early 20th century . In 1818 the two districts were united in the office of Hachenburg of the Duchy of Nassau . The Saynic district comprised 13 fire places in 1610 and 267 inhabitants in 1818. For the Nassau district, two Turkish taxpayers are named in 1542 , three fireplaces in 1578, five in 1711 and nine in 1738. In 1809 the Nassau town had 47 inhabitants.

The council in Lochum consists of eight council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Frank Petmecky became the local mayor of Lochum in 2014. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in office for a further five years with a share of 94.12% of the votes.
Petmecky's predecessor was Volker Benner.

The community lies between the federal highways 413 , which connects Bendorf and Hachenburg , the 414 , which leads from Altenkirchen towards Herborn and the 255 , which connects Montabaur and Marburg . The federal motorway 3 with the junction Montabaur (AS 40) is 25 kilometers away. The closest ICE stop is Montabaur train station on the Cologne – Rhein / Main high-speed line . Regional trains run in the neighboring towns of Enspel and Rotenhain.
