history
The place was first mentioned in 1480 as a fulling mill . If you want to explain the place name "forest mills", today's spelling suggests a "forest mill". The first mentions of the place by name and the spellings used give a better explanation. In old documents it says "von der Walckmohle" (1480), "Walckmühlen" (1524) and "Walckmüln" (1543). Today's spelling is not used until 1752. The earlier mentions refer to a fulling mill and thus to the trade of woolen weavers whose cloths were milled in the mill. Even in later years, the small town south of Rennerod was important for regional cloth processing. In 1787 there were 72 cotton spinners and in 1792 Jakob Buchner founded a cotton factory here. Although the said fulling mill was probably already derelict in 1592, the place continued its mill tradition. In 1653 Christ Sauer built a cutting mill that was later operated as an oil and grinding mill. Above the village, Johann Hans built another mill in 1719, which was later called the Schlossermühle. Historian Hellmuth Gensicke suspects that the Eichelerhof, already mentioned in 1330 (located in the northeastern part of the village) was a forerunner settlement of the village. The Seligenstadt Monastery was entitled to monetary and cheese interest from 1330 to 1520. To regard the Himmenhain desert (first mentioned in 1213/15) as a founding cell for forest mills must be questioned.
The place has seen many sovereigns since its creation. Initially, the Counts of Nassau-Diez were lords in the Rennerod area. Apart from brief interruptions, the individual Nassau mansions were rulers of Waldmühlen for centuries. In 1806 the transition from Nassau-Orange to the Grand Duchy of Berg took place . 1816 ended French rule and Waldmühlen was in the Duchy of Nassau the office Rennerod belong.
The school history goes back to the year 1720. At that time a winter school was held and until 1811 it was still from house to house. The first school was built in 1831. In 1927 the new school was built, which is now used as a residential building. School operations ceased in 1969.
In 1931 there were two mills, a forge, a sawmill, a grocer and two restaurants in the village. Of this, only the “Kastanienhof” restaurant has been preserved over the years. All other trades were closed.
In 1490 six houses are mentioned, in 1564 18 men, 1630 30 subjects, 1665 nine households with cows, 1738 26 fireplaces, 1777 45 houses and 1810 252 inhabitants.
In the West, today's district Waldmüheln there was the desolate fallen kitchen Hofen, which was mögelicherweise only one homestead. Shortly after it was first mentioned, it was no longer inhabited.
religion
Ecclesiastically, the place belonged to the neighboring Seck until 1614, then to Rennerod. In June 1957, work began on building the chapel. The branch church of St. John the Baptist in Waldmühlen belongs to the Catholic parish of St. Hubertus in Rennerod , Diocese of Limburg . The approximately 70 Protestant Christians in Waldmühlen belong to the Protestant parish Rennerod, Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau .
