Wied is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Hachenburg community .
geography
The community is located in the Westerwald between Limburg an der Lahn and Siegen in the Wiedtal or on the B 413 between Merkelbach and the old town (Hachenburg) in the northeast and Höchstenbach in the southwest. The village of Wied is surrounded in the east and south by the Hachenburger Stadtwald. The Wied flows through the village.
The Krambergsmühle (partly) and Mühlental (Thalmühle) residential areas also belong to Wied .
history
Wied was first mentioned in a document in 1461. The original name was Wied Wiede , which meant willow.

Municipal council
The council in Wied consists of twelve council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the volunteer local mayor as chairman. Until 2019, the council had eight council members.

Birgit Hopfinger became the local mayor of Wied in summer 2019. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, she was elected for five years with 67.34% of the vote.
Hopfinger's predecessors were Manfred Graulich and previously Ebba Groenewold-Jacobs, who had resigned from office on June 30, 2015 for personal reasons.
