geography
Ailertchen lies six kilometers northwest of Westerburg on a wide plain. The Elbbach , which is part of the Lahn catchment area, has its source in the municipality .
The Ahlsberg residential area is part of Ailertchen.

The council in Ailertchen consists of twelve council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the volunteer local mayor as chairman.

Cathrin Michel-Baldus became local mayor of Ailertchen in 2017 after she was elected with 63.11% of the vote in the direct election on January 22, 2017. In the regular direct election on May 26, 2019, she was confirmed in her office for another five years with 79.37% of the votes.
Cathrin Michel-Baldus' predecessors were Christian Mies, elected in 2014, who resigned from office after two and a half years for professional reasons, Ilona Rendler and Peter Mosler.
