history
The village is first mentioned as Albrechtsrode in a document from 1320 . There was also a castle here to protect the paths on the “Nöchel”. But there had been a chapel with a small settlement earlier (at least 1131).
The tower of the current church dates from this time. Estimates go back to the 9th century. The villages of Dehlingen (first settler named Dillinger, 1618) and Hirtscheid (around 1100 Hirnscheid ) belong to Alpenrod . There was a valley mill here from 1551. Count Salentin Ernst von Manderscheid-Sayn tried (1657 and 1678–1680) to direct traffic on Cologne-Frankfurter Straße (today's B 8 ) via Hachenburg . So he built a post road that ran above Alpenrod and is now known as the old post road. The Cologne-Leipziger Strasse and the Cologne-Frankfurt road were the main trunk routes since the time of the Merovingian kings. Since the valley was swampy and difficult to access in old times, all roads led over the heights like the old post road . It can be assumed that this road was already used in Celtic times.

| Blazon : "A blue sloping bar in gold, covered with three silver balls, three stylized green trees above, a red bell below." | |
| Justification of the coat of arms: The three spheres in the sloping bar also indicate the three villages of Alpenrod, Dehlingen and Hirtscheid, which belong to the municipality, and the local medieval noble family of Schönhals zu Albrechterode , which had three spheres in its coat of arms. The bell symbolizes the church and the parish of Alpenrod, the trees the wealth of forests. The colors gold and red (bell) are an indication of the earlier belonging to the County of Sayn . |
