Niederelbert is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Montabaur community .

geography

The community is located in the Westerwald south of Montabaur in the Nassau Nature Park , the district at an altitude of 240 to 275  m above sea level. NHN . Niederelbert also includes the residential area Heide, the Waldhaus Werthwiese and the Stocklandhof.

Neighboring communities of Niederelbert are Oberelbert , Holler , Horressen and Montabaur.

Niederelbert was first mentioned in a document in 1211 as a trainee ; 1233 Elewarthe ; 1260 Elwarten ; 1326 Eylewart ; 1385 Elwert ; 1427 Nederen eelfart ; 1499 Nederen Elwert ; 1786 Niederelbert .

The municipal council in Niederelbert consists of 16 council members, who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman. The 16 seats in the municipal council are divided between two groups of voters .

Christoph Neyer became mayor of Niederelbert in 2014. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in office for a further five years with a share of 64.03% of the votes.

Neyer's predecessors were Willi Müller, who held the office for 15 years, and Willi Bode.

Blazon : "Under a blue shield head closed by a golden wavy strip, inside a golden lily , accompanied by two silver elk shovels, in red a gold-armored silver rooster ."

Justification of the coat of arms: The two silver elk shovels in the head of the shield indicate the former place name Elewarthin . The golden lily in blue is taken from the coat of arms of the feudal lords of Helfenstein. For the 4 brooks (Elbertbach, Gambach, Stelzenbach and Weiherhellbach) there is symbolically the golden wavy strip with the 4 waves in the local coat of arms. The rooster, the popular symbol of Niederelbert, is included in the local coat of arms as a heraldic shield figure, gold-armored in silver on a red field. Red and silver are the Electorate's coat of arms colors.

Culture and sights

The Catholic parish church St. Josef, consecrated in 1909, is a neo-Romanesque three-aisled basilica.
