The Verbandsgemeinde Montabaur is an administrative unit in the legal form of a regional body in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . The municipality of the association includes the city of Montabaur and 24 independent local communities , the administrative seat is in the eponymous city of Montabaur.
The municipalities of the Verbandsgemeinde are located in the southern Westerwald . With 40,130 inhabitants, it is one of the largest association communities in Rhineland-Palatinate and the largest in the Westerwaldkreis.

Association municipal council
The Montabaur municipal council consists of 44 honorary council members who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the full-time mayor as chairman. In the 2019 election, the number of council members increased from 40 to 44.

mayor
Ulrich Richter-Hopprich (CDU) became mayor of the Montabaur community on January 1, 2018. In the direct election on May 7, 2017, he was elected to this office for eight years with a share of the vote of 59.88%. Richter-Hopprich is the successor to Edmund Schaaf (CDU).
Local partnership
The Verbandsgemeinde Montabaur has officially maintained a partnership with the American city of Fredericksburg ( Texas ) since 1996 .
