Welschneudorf is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Montabaur community .
geography
The community is located in the Unterwesterwald between Koblenz and Limburg an der Lahn in the Nassau Nature Park . Neighboring communities are Arzbach in the west, Oberelbert in the north, Hübingen in the south-east, and Zimmigart in the south.
Welschneudorf also includes the Gut Tiergarten and Stelzenbachhof residential areas .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1453 as Nudorff . The area belonged to the Roman Empire because it was located directly to the west of the Limes (traces and remains are still visible in the forest today). Walloon immigrants settled the dilapidated village after the Thirty Years War and called it "nova villa", which gradually became Neudorf and finally Welschneudorf. In Kurtrier time here was built a hunting zeughaus , now a half as a church. In 1795 the place was completely destroyed by withdrawing French troops.

Municipal council
The local council in Welschneudorf consists of twelve council members, who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman. The twelve seats in the municipal council are divided between two groups of voters . Until 2009, the council had 16 council members.

Günther Perlick became the local mayor of Welschneudorf on September 2, 2019. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was elected for five years with 53.06% of the vote.
Perlick's predecessors were Bernd Labonte (local mayor 2014–2019) and Thomas Schmidt (2004–2014).
