Location of the local community Oberahr in the Westerwaldkreis
Oberahr is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Wallmerod Association .
Geographical location
The community is located in the Westerwald between Montabaur and Hachenburg . The Ahrbach flows through the village from north to south .
history
Oberahr, 1490 Oberanre , is located in the headwaters of the Ahrbach, which was mentioned as Anara in 959. It gives the community its name and flows through the Oberahr district from north to south. Oberahr was in the former Niederlahngau in the parish and court of Meudt under the territorial rule of the Counts of Diez and Nassau. Through the Diez Treaties of 1564, the parish of Meudt came to the Electorate of Trier and so the Oberahrer lived in the "Trierschland" until 1802 under the rule of the "crook". After that, the Nassau princes took possession of the areas on the right bank of the Rhine again and from 1806 Oberahr also belonged to the newly formed Duchy of Nassau . After its annexation in 1866, Oberahr came to the Prussian province of Hesse-Nassau .

coat of arms
Blazon : “Of silver and blue split by a wave cut, above a blue-gold split mountain of three in front a red cross, topped with a golden bishop's staff ending in a flame. In front of a growing golden ear of wheat a growing golden beech leaf. "
Justification of the coat of arms: In the local coat of arms, the Ahrbach, and thus also the place name, is symbolized with the split by wave cut. The Nassau coat of arms colors blue and gold and the red "Trier cross" in silver are reminiscent of the former sovereigns Nassau and Trier. For church and patronage (Saint Blaise) there is a golden bishop's crook in the local coat of arms, which ends in a flame and thus symbolizes the attribute or the blessing of Blasius. The bishop's crook also points to the Trier crook. The Oberahrer Mountains and the Beulstein are heraldically represented in the local coat of arms as a blue and gold three-mountain. Agriculture and the forest each symbolize a growing golden ear and a growing golden beech leaf. |
