Hundsangen is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Wallmerod Association .

Geographical location

The community is located in the Westerwald between Montabaur and Limburg an der Lahn, directly on the border between Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse . In terms of population, Hundsangen is the largest local community in Wallmerod.

history

Hundsangen was first mentioned in a document in 1096 as a dog fence . His church has the patron saint Goar , a saint from the Middle Rhine . The baroque church (1722–1726) was expanded in 1971. It used to be generously and uniformly decorated with sculptures from the Hadamar school (around 1730); However, these were lost during renovations in 1967.

A Roman medallion was found in Hundsangen's cemetery. Today it is in the Nassau antiquities collection in Wiesbaden .

In 1970 the municipality of Hundsangen wanted to move to the neighboring state of Hesse and submitted an application to the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of the Interior . The reason for this was the strong ties between the population in the Limburg - Hadamar area . In January 1972 this application was rejected because of its pull for other areas. Three months later Hundsangen was incorporated into the Wallmerod Association.

Municipal council

The local council in Hundsangen consists of 16 council members, who were elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote, and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

On August 12, 2018, there was an early municipal election , in which the municipal council members were elected in a majority vote and the local mayor was elected directly . The new elections became necessary after all elected officials resigned on April 6, 2018 after differences with the then local mayor Alois Fein. When there were not enough replacements, he announced his withdrawal. In the meantime the strange situation arose that Hundsangen had neither advice nor mayor.

Melanie Brühl became the local mayor of Hundsangen on June 19, 2019. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, she was elected for five years with 76.39% of the vote.

Brühl's predecessors were Marco Weißer, who was elected in 2018, and the mayor Alois Fein, who resigned at the time, until 2018.

Buildings

The baroque parish church “St. Goar ”was built in 1726. The Romanesque church tower , however, dates from the 12th century.

Forest Boschern

There are several forests in Hundsangen that are heavily trafficked. For example, there is a nature trail in the Am Buch forest or a barbecue area in the “Boschern” forest. The name of this forest is derived from the local dialect and means "beech forest".

In the Boschern forest there are some rocks from the time when Hundsangen was still the seabed. They contain high quality marble .

In the Hundsangen cemetery behind the St. Goar Church there is a war memorial on which some of the fallen soldiers of the Second World War are mentioned by name.

Hundsangens first soccer team knew how to convince in the soccer Rhineland league for many years.
