Zehnhausen bei Rennerod is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Rennerod .

Geographical location

The community of Zehnhausen is located on the basalt knoll of the high Westerwald at an average altitude of over 530  m above sea level. NHN . The place is located directly on the Bundesstrasse 54 , Mainzer Strasse, a medieval trade route. It comes from Mainz and leads to Siegen. However, the road had little influence on the development of the place.

history

The place name with the ending "-hausen" suggests that the place was created at the time of the strongest Franconian settlement wave in the Westerwald in the 6th to 11th centuries.

The first written mention goes back to the year 1335, when the place Zhenhusen is mentioned. It is believed that the core of the original place can be found in the Altzehnhausen corridor , which is about 1.2 kilometers southwest of today's location. Remnants of walls found there could also be remains of hall walls. The no longer existing place Königshub  - first mentioned around 1440 as Konigshuse and located one kilometer to the north, formed a community with Zehnhausen in 1738 and must have fallen desolate shortly afterwards. For the year 1565 eight bird people and no other inhabitants are mentioned there, for 1607 four men. In 1646 Königshub is noted as having been removed. In 1711 three families and in 1750 eight residents were named for the last time. The field name Kindschue still shows the location of the desert today .

Zehnhausen has belonged to the Emmerichenhain parish since ancient times and has been evangelical since the Reformation was introduced in 1532.

On April 17, 1658, 16 houses burned down completely within an hour. In 1660 there were 36 people in six families in the village; In 1782 there were 169 and in 1807 33 families with a total of 168 people lived in the village.

A branch school of the parish school is mentioned for the first time in 1736 and in 1784 the community built its first schoolhouse. The village school was used until the end of the 1960s. All eight years were taught in one classroom.

In 1795 the district was consolidated. At that time there was probably also a village wall. The field name "Schmitterborn" indicates early iron smelting around 1800.

In June 1796, the residents of Zehnhausen fled to Nenderoth in the Kreuzberg forest above Johannisburg from advancing French soldiers who were advancing from Hachenburg to the Westerwald to Emmerichenhain. Some children were born there too.

While the village still had five households in 1565, there were only two completely impoverished households in Zehnhausen in 1635. In 1643 there were 16 inhabitants, 1711 14 families, 1741 115 inhabitants and 1807 168 inhabitants.

Since 1912 the community has had its own central water supply and an elevated water tank. Today there is a small home office in it.
