history

Until the church is planted

Hohenroth was first mentioned in 867 as Hohirod . In old documents there are later mentions as Hohnroda , Hohiresth and Honroth . The place had a school building and a church with its own parish early on. This was later dissolved because the pastor did not receive sufficient income from the place, and Hohenroth was affiliated with the parish of Salz . In 1695 the place became a subsidiary of the parish Bad Neustadt . The forest masters von Lebenhan-Rothenkolben, the bailiffs on the Salzburg and the knightly family of those von Ebersberg called von Weyhers were landlords of the community before it came completely into possession of the Würzburg monastery .

The office of the Hochstift Würzburg belonged to the Franconian Empire from 1500 . After secularization in 1803 in favor of Bavaria, it was left to Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany in 1805 to form the Grand Duchy of Würzburg and with this in 1814 it finally fell to Bavaria. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818.

20th century

In 1924 Hohenroth became a curate again and in 1931 today's church was built. Remnants of a Gothic window from a previous building from the Middle Ages have been built into this.

coat of arms

Hohenroth coat of arms
Blazon : “Wavy divided by silver and blue; Two red maces crossed diagonally above, above and on each side a red rose; a silver lily below. "

The coat of arms contains two maces at the top in memory of the forestry masters von Lebenhan -Rothenkolben and at the bottom the partisan from the knightly family of von Ebersberg called von Weyhers, wrongly interpreted as a lily . Both families owned extensive property in all parts of the village. The undulating dividing line was chosen to make it clear that as early as the 17th century the community's bishopric had given carp breeding for an annual rent. The municipality introduced the coat of arms in 1973 by resolution of the municipal council and in the same year received approval from the government of Lower Franconia. On the municipality flag, the coat of arms can be seen in the middle on a red and white divided flag.

Culture and sights

In the suburb of Leutershausen, the Kuratiekirche St. Bartholomäus was completed in 1992 according to the plans of the architect Oskar Herbert. In 2003 the baptistery received colored windows from the artist pastor Sieger Köder . In his typical style, they depict the themes of creation, salvation history, the Eucharist and Pentecost .

After archaeological excavations, castle remains were found on the Veitsberg , which belongs to the municipality . As a forerunner of Salzburg, they were probably a former imperial palace , which was demolished at the end of the 10th century.
