history

Until the church is planted

Willmars belonged to the Counts of Botenlauben , a branch line of the Counts of Henneberg . Count Otto II von Henneberg-Botenlauben ceded the place to the Fulda monastery in 1230 . It was pledged to the Counts of Henneberg-Römhild and was acquired by the Henneberg-Schleusingen line in 1453 and incorporated into the Maßfeld office. After their extinction in 1583, the place was part of the Duchy of Saxony. From 1680 it belonged to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen . One half of the place was stately Saxon, the other half belonged to Ganerbe who belonged to the imperial knighthood. Oberfilke and Unterfilke as well as Völkershausen belonged to the imperial knighthood ( Lords of Stein ) until 1803 .

Willmars came in 1808 with Filke, Völkershausen, Neustädtles and Sands to the Grand Duchy of Würzburg of the Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany . By means of a state treaty in 1808, he acquired the rights (village and community rulership) of the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen. In 1814 the place and its current districts fell to Bavaria. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , the municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

coat of arms

Description of coat of arms : Divided; at the top divided by silver and red, at the top a black sloping bar , at the bottom a silver crown ; below, in gold on a green three-mountain, a red- armored black hen .

Symbolism: The crown in the coat of arms is reminiscent of the royal estate in the early Middle Ages. The black hen on the Dreiberg refers to the landlords and territorial lords of the Counts of Henneberg (Henneberg coat of arms). The lords (later barons) von Stein were associated with the municipality in the late Middle Ages. Your coat of arms, the black crossbar in silver, is intended to indicate this rare historical continuity.

The coat of arms was approved on August 17, 1982; the design comes from Karl Nikolaus Haas ( heraldist from Kronach).
