history
Until the 19th century
Aubstadt was mentioned in 904 when it became the property of the Fulda Abbey. The place name means: "Settlement in a fertile, water-rich valley". The “Pearl of the Grabfeld”, as Aubstadt is called especially because of its good creditworthiness , was first mentioned in a document in a fief of the Henneberg monastery Veßra in 1132. The Wechterswinkel monastery and aristocrats from the surrounding area also had property in Aubstadt.
During the time of the tribal duchies, the place was in the Duchy of Franconia . From 1317 that won Baron de von Bibra more and more influence in the community. In 1402 it was wholly owned by them. The church tower was built around 1350 and today still houses an old bell from 1530. The church at that time was part of a fortified church. The tower that forms the entrance to the complex is still there today as a remnant. The two towers are now the symbol of Aubstadt. In 1499 an early knife (that is, a clergyman who holds mass early) is mentioned in the Aubstadt branch belonging to the Herbstadt parish .
In 1530 the von Bibra received patronage rights in Aubstadt. After the introduction of the Reformation , Aubstadt became a branch of the Protestant parish in Höchheim , which was also owned by the von Bibra family. In 1608 the church nave , which had become too small, was demolished under Bernhard von Bibra and rebuilt larger. In 1699 the official parish seat was transferred from Höchheim to Aubstadt.
The former imperial knighthood place of the Baron von Bibra , which belonged to the Franconian knight circle , was mediatized in 1806 together with its neighboring towns Irmelshausen and Höchheim by the newly formed Grand Duchy of Würzburg and with this in 1814 fell to Bavaria . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .
In 1835 143 Aubstadt citizens bought the Haubachsee from the state. The lake was divided into 144 parts and after it was drained, which lasted ten years, it was used for agriculture.
Religions
The Protestant community in the village belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Dean's Office in Bad Neustadt an der Saale .
