Kaarle Krohn
Kaarle Leopold Krohn (born May 10, 1863 in Helsinki , † June 19, 1933 in Sammatti ) was a Finnish folklorist .
Career
Kaarle Krohn, son of Julius Krohn , brother of Ilmari Krohn and half-brother of Aino Kallas , became an associate professor (ten years later professor ) for Finnish and comparative folklore studies ( suomalaisen ja vertailevan kansanrunoudentutkimuksen ) at the University of Helsinki in 1898 , making him the world's first professor for Is narrative research . In 1907 he founded the Association of Folklore Fellows together with Johannes Bolte and Axel Olrik (1864–1917); from 1911 he was the first editor of the Folklore Fellows' Communications ( FFC ). In 1917 he became chairman of the Finnish Literature Society ( Suomalaisen Kirjallisuuden Seura ).
Krohn co-founded the Finnish Academy of Sciences ( Suomalainen Tiedeakatemia - Academia Scientiarum Fennica - Finnish Academy of Science and Letters ) as well as the journals Virittäjä (1896) and Finnish-Ugric research (1901). He is considered to be the actual founder of the "geographical-historical method" ( Finnish School ), which he described in 1926 in the book The folkloric working method .
