Ilmari Krohn

Ilmari Henrik Reinhold Krohn (born November 8, 1867 in Helsinki ; † April 25, 1960 there ) was a Finnish musicologist and composer.

Career

Krohn studied music in Helsinki with Richard Faltin and from 1886 to 1890 at the Leipzig Conservatory with Gustav Schreck . From 1894 to 1905 he worked in Tampere and from 1911 to 1944 in Helsinki as organist. He also taught musicology from 1918 to 1935 as an associate professor at the University of Helsinki .

Krohn published numerous musicological publications z. B. on Anton Bruckner and Jean Sibelius ' symphonies (partly in German) and was a member of the Choral and Hymnal Commission of Finland. He composed a St. John Passion, two oratorios, an opera and several song cycles.

Family relationships

Ilmari Krohn was the son of the poet, literary scholar and folklorist Julius Krohn and thus brother of the folklorist Kaarle Krohn . The writer Aino Kallas emerged from his father's second marriage and was thus his half-sister.
