Kölbingen is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . Since 1972 it has belonged to the then newly formed community of Westerburg .

geography

Kölbingen is located 4 km west of Westerburg , in a valley between the Geisenwald and the Ruhscheid .

Districts are Schönberg, Möllingen and Kölbingen. The Birkenhof and Margaretenhof residential areas also belong to the community .

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1253.

Municipal council

The council in Kölbingen consists of 16 council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Frank Schäfer became mayor of Kölbingen in 1999. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in office for a further five years with a share of the vote of 87.19%.

Schäfer's predecessor Hubert Kloft had held the office for ten years.

• Kölblingen used to have a direct rail connection through the Herborn – Montabaur line ( Westerwaldquerbahn ) in passenger and freight traffic until 1981 .
