Hardt (dialect: Hoord ) is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Bad Marienberg (Westerwald) community .

Geographical location

The community is located in the Westerwald between Limburg and Siegen . The nest , which belongs to the catchment area of ​​the Sieg , forms the southern border of the municipality.

The Hardtermühle, south of the village, is in the municipality of Hahn near Marienberg .

history

Hardt was first mentioned in a document in 1332 in connection with the Hardtermühle . The place name is derived from the Old High German hart (= "forest height" or "forest slope"). In the district, presumably in the ravine to Erbach , was the place Gilhain or Gielhayn , which disappeared after 1440 (ahd. Gil = "narrow valley", "gorge"). In 1492 there was still the hamlet "Zur Höhe".
