Kirburg (dialect: Kirbursch, Kirberich ) is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Bad Marienberg (Westerwald) community .

Geographical location

The community is located in the Westerwald between Limburg and Siegen . The Waschebach, which belongs to the catchment area of ​​the Sieg , flows through the local area.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1215. At that time Kirburg was the westernmost parish of the mother parish of Haiger , whose border river "Nigra Morla" gave the place Mörlen its name. The half-timbered church built in 1866 gave way to a stone building in 1959.

Municipal council

The council in Kirburg consists of twelve council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Janosch Becker became mayor of Kirburg in summer 2019. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was elected for five years with 88.89% of the vote.

Becker's predecessor Hans-Alfred Graics first took over the office in 1989. He did not run for the 2014 local elections. However, his successor at the time, Annabelle Kehl-Beckmann, had to resign in 2016 for family reasons. Since no other candidate was found, Graics took over the task again until the end of the 2019 election period.
