Bannberscheid is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Wirges .

Geographical location

The village is located north of Montabaur at a height of about 270 m in a meadow with a gradually rising slope, within the low mountain range of the Westerwald , which is framed by the high Westerwald and the Montabaur ridge .

history

Bannberscheid was first mentioned in 1211 as Berenscheit .

The village church was built from 1895 to 1897. The place was electrified in 1921 and connected to the sewer system in 1937. Until the 1960s, clay mining was the main source of income.

The approximately 100 Protestant Christians are looked after by the Evangelical Martin Luther Church Congregation in Wirges, which is part of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau .

The council in Bannberscheid consists of twelve council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Georg Holl became the local mayor of Bannberscheid on August 15, 2019. Since there was no candidate in the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was elected by the council in accordance with the municipal regulations.
