Location of the local community Meudt in the Westerwaldkreis
Meudt is a municipality in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Wallmerod community and is the largest community in terms of area.
geography
The community is located in the Westerwald between Montabaur and Westerburg .
It is divided into the four districts of Dahlen, Eisen, Ehringhausen and Meudt. For the district of Dahlen also includes residential places Bodener mill and Langwiesen.
Ehringhausen is located between Meudt and Hahn am See not far from the federal highway 8 and has about 40 inhabitants. The Eisenbach rises here .
history
With the first documentary mention in 1097 as muda or muede , the place is one of the oldest settlements in the Westerwald. Due to the old name muda or muede , it can be assumed that the place is older. Muda points out an old customs office.
Meudt came from the County of Diez to Kurtrier in 1564 and to the Duchy of Nassau in 1806 . In Nassau there was the Meudt office from 1809 to 1831 , later the Wallmerod office .
The Meudt synagogue was destroyed during the November pogroms in 1938 .
On January 1, 1969, the previously independent community Ehringhausen was incorporated into Meudt. Today's community was formed on June 7, 1969 from the communities Meudt, Dahlen and Eisen.

coat of arms
Blazon : "In blue, ride a golden key with a cruciform beard and a heart."
Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms officially awarded on January 22, 1938 is taken from the community seal as it has been used since the beginning of the Nassau period (since 1816) and is tinged with the Nassau colors. The local church patron St. Peter is marked with the key. |
Culture and sights
Buildings
The town hall, built in 1596, is the oldest preserved in the Westerwald . Its roof construction with the curved dwarf house is striking . Today there is a restaurant there. Further sights are the Gangolfusbrunnen, which contains the source of the Eisenbach, and the Jewish cemetery .
The Gangolfushalle, which has been newly opened since 2006, offers modern event space for over 500 seats.
church
The current Catholic parish church (St. Peter) dates largely from 1910. The Romanesque church tower is older. As part of the new building at that time, the local parish office prepared a monument protection report in 1908. The site inspection revealed that the Romanesque church tower was to be preserved, but the nave and choir were worthless from a conservation point of view. Because of the picturesque silhouette of the late Gothic choir covered with a pointed tent roof, an attempt should be made to preserve it in the new building design.
