List of trolley routes
Draisine traffic takes place on the following former railway lines .
Germany
Baden-Württemberg
- On August 28, 2009, a tourist bicycle trolley operation was opened on the approximately four-kilometer-long Laufen - Untergröningen section of the Oberen Kochertalbahn, northeast of Stuttgart.
Brandenburg
- The draisine route of the Zossen - Jänickendorf adventure railway runs south of Berlin over 25 kilometers from the Notteniederung through the Sperenberger Heide into the Baruther glacial valley . It uses the tracks of the former Royal Prussian Military Railway .
- The disused railway connection between Templin and Fürstenberg / Havel of the adventure railway is Germany's first draisine route. The route has been in operation since June 15, 1996, is 28 km long and leads via Lychen through the Uckermark lake landscape of Brandenburg .
- The Mittenwalde - Töpchin draisine route south of Berlin has been in operation since 2001 . In 2006 this line was expanded to include the Königs Wusterhausen –Mittenwalde line. (see also Königs Wusterhausen-Mittenwalde-Töpchiner Kleinbahn ) (length up to 27 km)
- The draisine route from Werneuchen , district of Tiefensee, to Sternebeck, northeast of Berlin, went into operation in 2004 (length 12 km)
- Northwest of Berlin, the Kremmen - Germendorf trolley line has been in operation since 2006 (length 10 km).
Hesse
- Eder draisine on the Ederseebahn from Affoldern to Hemfurth
- Solar trolley on the Überwaldbahn from Mörlenbach to Wald-Michelbach im Odenwald , electric drive with pedal generator and support from photovoltaic modules on the roof. At two technically secured level crossings , the draisines have priority over road traffic when requested by pressing a button.
- On the Aartalbahn between Diez - Freiendiez (Rhineland-Palatinate) and Aarbergen - Michelbach (Hessen), the Aartalbahn working group also set up an operation with hand-lever trolleys.
- Wehretal-Draisine on a section of the cannon train from Waldkappel to Bischhausen . In the meantime, unfortunately, it has been closed and dismantled again because the association has dissolved. The signaling technology was included on the journeys, whereby the visitors got an impression of the importance of the functioning mechanically operated signals and barriers of the Deutsche Bahn. As a result, the bicycle trolleys had priority over road traffic at the gated level crossings.
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
- In the Nossentiner / Schwinzer Heide nature park , a trolley line runs from Karow near Lake Plauer to Borkow .
- At the Kummerower See , the single-track route from Dargun to Salem can be ridden on bicycle trolleys. The one-way distance is approx. 16 km.
- North of Waren (Müritz) you can drive 13 km to Schwinkendorf .
Lower Saxony
- Between Rinteln- Süd and Alverdissen (North Rhine-Westphalia) you can travel on the Extertalbahn in the summer months .
- At Bodenwerder , hand lever trolleys operate on the section between Buchhagen and Dielmissen through the Lennetal.
- Between Bleckede (Waldfrieden) and Alt Garge there is the possibility of driving with four-seater pedal trolleys on a railway line of the former power station there through the Lower Saxony Elbe Valley Biosphere Reserve .
- On the disused Quakenbrück – Rheine railway line between Quakenbrück and Nortrup and between Nortrup and Fürstenau, trolley rides are possible with both bicycle and hand lever trolleys.
- In Westerstede , on the former seven-kilometer-long Westerstede – Ocholt railway line, there is a trolley with four-seat pedal trolleys and the option of connecting a multi-seat wagon with two trolleys.
- The Wilstedt-Ostereistedt-Zeven trolley line is located near Bremen . On the route between Wilstedt - Ostereistedt - Zeven you can choose between bicycle and hand lever trolleys.
- On the Warnetalbahn between Salzgitter-Bad and Börßum, the steam locomotive association 41 096 eV offers trips with a motorized or hand lever trolley several times a year.
- At Neuenkirchen , the Neuenkirchener Draisinenbahn operates on the section of the former Soltau – Neuenkirchen line between the train station and the B 71 .
- Between Hänigsen , Wathlingen and Nienhagen , the Kalibahn Niedersachsen Riedel eV offers trolley rides . Bicycle, hand lever and motorized trolleys are used.
North Rhine-Westphalia
- Between Rinteln Süd (Nds) and Alverdissen , four-seater trolleys can be used on the rails of the Extertalbahn in the summer months , and a trolley is also available for wheelchair users .
- Between Rahden and Wagenfeld on a disused section of the Bassum – Herford railway line .
- Between Monschau - Kalterherberg and Sourbrodt via the Vennbahn through the High Fens .
- The Grenzland-Draisine has been running between Kleve , Kranenburg and Groesbeek (NL) since April 27, 2008. Two stages are offered (5.5 km from Kranenburg to Groesbeek / NL and over 10 km from Kleve to Kranenburg) on the currently disused section of the left Lower Rhine route .
- Railway museum Metelen Land - 100 m club track with hand lever trolley
- In the Bochum Railway Museum in Bochum-Dahlhausen, a hand-lever trolley can be used to travel 250 m back and forth.
- Neuenkirchen-St. Arnold - On part of the disused Duisburg – Quakenbrück railway line, trolley trips with a hand-lever trolley are possible at 750 m in the area of the local train station .
- On the old Wuppertal train from Wuppertal to Radevormwald is after the construction of Wuppertalsperre at the instigation of the association Wupper rail e. V. the scenic section from Wuppertal-Beyenburg to Radevormwald-Wilhelmsthal remained. The current route length is approx. 8.5 km and is used as a Wuppertrail with bicycle trolleys for four or five passengers. Special draisines with a safe wheelchair platform also allow people with disabilities to ride.
- At the Wuppertal-Loh train station there is a 1.7 km long draisine route that can be used at the weekend for a donation.
- The Schleifkottenbahn between Oberbrügge and Halver has been able to be ridden with bicycle trolleys since 2015 . The route is about 6.5 km long and leads u. a. through an approx. 300 m long tunnel.
Rhineland-Palatinate
- The trolley line in the West Palatinate on the disused section of the Glantalbahn between Altenglan and Staudernheim . You can choose between the short distance to Lauterecken (17.5 km from Altenglan) and the full 38.5 km distance.
- Between Bornheim bei Landau (Palatinate) and Lingenfeld, you can cycle the 13 km long route (up to 26 km there and back) of the Südpfalz Draisinenbahn from May to October (see Germersheim – Landau railway line ). The traffic is in one direction (the first half of the day towards Lingenfeld, the second half back to Bornheim). After a fire at Lingenfeld train station, Westheim (Pfalz) is the new turning point.
- On the Aartalbahn between Diez - Freiendiez (Rhineland-Palatinate) and Aarbergen - Michelbach (Hessen), the Aartalbahn working group also set up an operation with hand-lever trolleys.
- On the Westerwald-Querbahn between Rennerod and Fehl-Ritzhausen, the IG Westerwald-Querbahn eV set up a trolley operation with hand-lever trolleys. These will run on the 6-kilometer section from Easter 2014.
Saarland
- On the Warndt and Rosseltalbahn between the former Warndt mine and Völklingen -Wehrden, a bicycle trolley with a handcar driver (the "Florentine") operated for the first time in the summer of 2007 under the name Warndt Express . In 2008 another was added for seven people. The starting point of the journeys is the train station of Großrosseln , from where one can drive in the direction of Warndt-Grube or Völklingen-Wehrden. The Warndt and Rosseltalbahn served until 2005 to transport hard coal from the Warndt mine of Saarbergwerke AG (later DSK, now RAG) and was electrified; the catenary has since been dismantled.
Saxony
- In Brand-Erbisdorf in Langenau, the Eisenbahnverein Langenau eV operates a 5 km long route.
- IG Verkehrsgeschichte Wilsdruff eV operates a route in the Wilsdruff station area
- In the Knappenrode energy factory: Lausitzer Mining Museum (Hoyerswerda, OT Knappenrode), the Friends of Lausitzer Mining Museum Knappenrode eV operates a 2.7 km long circuit, 900 mm gauge, former coal connection railway
- From Arnsdorf to Dürrröhrsdorf , the Mecklenburg Draisinenbahn operates a route on which part can be used with a hand lever trolley and part with bicycle trolleys
Saxony-Anhalt
- Between the places Oranienbaum , Vockerode and Graefenhainichen , trolley transport is possible for tourist purposes on the disused coal supply lines of the former Vockerode power plant , as well as on parts of the Zschornewitz small railway , which was used to supply the disused Zschornewitz power plant .
Schleswig-Holstein
- Between Marne and Sankt Michaelisdonn in Dithmarschen , four people per vehicle can ride on pedals and, in addition, sails driven draisines in the summer months.
- From 2006 to 2008 a trolley line was in operation between Malente and Lütjenburg ( Holstein Switzerland ). Operations are to be resumed in the foreseeable future (see: Malente-Gremsmühlen-Lütjenburg railway line ). The resumption is planned from May 2018
- There has been a trolley service between Neumünster and Wankendorf since 2006. The starting point is Bokhorst train station.
- With the adventure train Ratzeburg over the Kaiserbahn to Hollenbek.
- Between Leck ( North Friesland District ) and Unaften ( Schleswig-Flensburg District ) on a maximum of 42 km (round trip).
Thuringia
- Since 2003, the Eichsfelder Kanonenbahnverein eV has tried to use a section of the former Kanonenbahn in northwest Thuringia as a trolley line and has been offering trips since May 15, 2006, which also lead over the 24 meter high railway viaduct above the town of Lengenfeld unterm Stein .
- Since 2008 the DBV-Förderverein der Max und Moritzbahn eV has been trying to drive the Schmiedefeld-Lichte Ost section of the Probstzella – Neuhaus railway on Rennweg in southern Thuringia. After approval was granted in September 2008, rides are now offered.
- Since 2011, the Thüringer Oberlandbahn eV has been offering trips on two sections of the Oberlandbahn around Ziegenrück . The 32-meter-high and 115-meter-long Ziemestal bridge is crossed on the 11-kilometer-long southern section. There are tunnels on both sections.
Austria
Burgenland
- On the Burgenland Railway between Neckenmarkt - Horitschon and Oberpullendorf .
- Formerly, trips with motorized trolleys were organized on a branch of the Pinkatalbahn (in Burgenland) from Oberwart to Oberschützen in summer.
Carinthia
- From summer 2020, the route on the Gailtalbahn from Kötschach-Mauthen to Jenig will be served by a bicycle trolley.
Lower Austria
- From 2011 to 2019 there was on the branch line Bruck an der Leitha-Petronell-Carnuntum of the Eastern Railway between the local borders of Bruck an der Leitha and Petronell-Carnuntum , a bicycle trolley due to the poor condition of the route was removed in 2019.
- In Weinviertel on the local railway Korneuburg-Hohenau between Ernstbrunn and Asparn an der Zaya the Weinviertel trolley rides
- In the Weinviertel on the Korneuburg – Hohenau local railway between Asparn and Mistelbach , the Zayataler Schienentaxi (motorized trolley) runs in summer
- For a few years there was a tourist trolley service on the Wieselburg - Mank narrow-gauge railway. This operation moved to the narrow-gauge Göstling - Lunz line in 2020.
Styria
- Formerly, most recently on October 31, 1999, draisine rides were carried out on the Thörlerbahn . The tracks were dismantled in 2003/2004.
Switzerland
- On the Sursee-Triengen-Bahn (ST) trips with a motorized trolley can be made for smaller groups. Public trips are also to take place on the unique, catenary-free route in the Surental in Lucerne.
- On some, mostly disused lines, trips can also be made with handraisins and rail bikes, e.g. B. on the Laupen – Gümmenen line in the canton of Bern or on the cross-cantonal line from Ramsen (SH) to Etzwilen (TG) on the old Etzwilen – Singen railway line .
Denmark
- The Assensbanen can be used from April 12th to October 19th for a distance of approximately 30 km. The route runs from Tommerup St. (Stationsby) to Tommerup, also known as Knarreborg. From there to the small village of Nårup with the old station and the galaxy. From Nårup the route runs along the woods from Krengerup to Glamsbjerg, Flemløse, Ebberup and Assens. On the way there are views of Dreslette Church, Helnæs Bay and the fishing village of Thorøhuse.
- Between the towns of Nørre Nebel and Nymindegab there is a 6.5 km route for bicycle trolleys. It is a disused section of the now privatized Varde – Nørre Nebel – Tarm railway . The route is open between April 1st and October 31st.
France
- Drugeac-Salins, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region : the 7.2 km long bicycle trolley route from Drugeac to the waterfall near Salins has been in operation since 2010
Norway
In Norway, draisines z. B. at the campsite in Namsos for part of the disused railway line Grong-Namsos (approx. 12.5 km from Namsos to Skage).
Sweden
- Formerly: Jörn – Arvidsjaur railway line - trolley service discontinued in 2010
- Bengtsfors – Arjäng in Värmland
- Ljusdal – Hudiksvall railway line
- Strömtorp – Gullspång railway line
- Sections of the domestic railway between Mora and Vansbro
- two shorter routes in the vicinity of Ystad
Handcar racing
North America
- The Palmerston Railway Heritage Museum , Ontario , Canada hosts the Canadian Championship Handcar Races every June - for the first time in 1992.
- Dr. EP Kitty's Wunderkammer, hosts the Great Sonoma County Handcar Races (formerly: The Hand-car Regatta ), in the Remise of Old Town Santa Rosa , California, USA.
- A handcar race was held in Willits, California, USA from September 8, 2012.
Australia
- Handcars from the Australian manufacturer Kalamazoo Manufacturing Company are used in races in Australia.
