SDZ Druck und Medien, then trading as Süddeutscher Zeitungsdienst , founded the Gmünder Tagespost in 1959 as a daily newspaper for the Schwäbisch Gmünd district .

In 1965, the Gmünder Tagespost was the first newspaper in the Federal Republic to be printed in four colors together with the Schwäbische Post on a newspaper rotary printing press using offset printing .

The online edition has been published since February 13, 2003.
