Location of Maitis in the city of Göppingen

Maitis (421 m above sea level) is a district of Göppingen in Baden-Württemberg .

Geographical location

Maitis is located in the outermost northeast corner of the Göppingen urban area and consists of the eponymous district itself, the smaller Lenglingen about 1.5 km east of it and the courtyards on both sides of the connecting road between the two farms Hirschhof, Maitishof and Ziegerhof. As the crow flies, it is about 8 km to the northeast from the core town of Göppingen. Almost 2 km south of the village, the summit of the Hohenstaufen rises a good 250 m above the village, from the northern slope of the mountain two spring branches of the Beutenbach descend, which pass it in the west. The village is surrounded by an open, slightly hilly high plateau at an altitude of 420  m above sea level. NN , which extends between the valleys of the Beutenbach in the west and the Tannbach, which is buried a little northwest of Lengingen, in the east in the direction of the Remstal to the north. In the deeper valley cuts and on the ascent to Hohenstaufen there is forest.

history

Maitis became an independent municipality in 1826 when it was spun off from Hohenstaufen . Until 1972 Maitis was an independent, agricultural community, which today still shows a corresponding village image. On April 1, 1972, the reclassification from the district of Schwäbisch Gmünd to the district of Göppingen and the incorporation into its district town took place. Today there is a new development area east of the old village center.

Lenglingen was until February 29, 1972 a hamlet of the community Großdeinbach in what was then the district of Schwäbisch Gmünd . Then he belonged with Großdeinbach to the city of Schwäbisch Gmünd . On January 1, 1973 it was reclassified to Göppingen and has been part of the Maitis district since then.

Buildings

Maitis has a treasure in the St. Leonhard Chapel. It was built at the beginning of the 13th century, parts of which are still preserved in the choir of today's Protestant Leonhard Church . The current nave was built in 1464 as a side extension to the chapel. In this year the church "sub honore et vocabulo sti leonhardi et beatissime marie" was consecrated, ie to Saint Leonard and the Virgin Mary.

traffic

Maitis is located between Schwäbisch Gmünd and Göppingen and can be reached after a total of about 11 km on the L 1075 and finally on a steep path down the K 1450 from the center of Göppingen, both roads then continue to the northeast and north into the Remstal. On the valley path that avoids the intermediate ascent to the eastern slope of Hohenstaufen via Wäschenbeuren on the B 297 and then on the K 1405, the distance is about 13 km. The former Hohenstaufenbahn had its highest station on the southern edge of Maitis.
