The Schwäbische Post is a local daily newspaper in the Ostalb district . The newspaper gets its national pages from the editorial office of the Südwest Presse in Ulm.

The publisher is SDZ Druck und Medien GmbH in Aalen, run by the Theiss family . The company and its subsidiaries employ a total of around 320 permanent employees, 36 of whom are trainees and volunteers.

The sold circulation is 24,234 copies, a decrease of 10.1 percent since 1998.

history

On January 29, 1837, the Bote von Aalen was founded as the first Aalen newspaper by the two Schwäbisch Gmünd booksellers Johannes Raach and Philip Jakob Andreas Buck. After the revolution in 1848 , the printing works and the property were taken over by Ludwig Gottlob Stierlin. He received the concession to publish the official and intelligence newspaper Oberamtsiertel Aalen , which was given the new title Kocherzeitung in 1873 .

After being brought into line by the majority shareholder "NS-Presse", the Kocherzeitung became the Kocher- und Nationalzeitung during the Nazi era. It was last published on April 17, 1945.

On February 25, 1948, Johannes Binkowski and Konrad Theiss received approval from the US military government for the newly founded Süddeutsche Zeitungsdienst to publish the Schwäbische Post newspaper for the Aalen district as the twelfth newspaper in Baden-Württemberg .

In 1954, the WA Stierlin printing company and the publishing rights for the Kocherzeitung were taken over by the Schwäbische Post .

In 1959, the Süddeutsche Zeitung service founded in Schwabisch Gmund appearing Gmünder daily mail .

The publishers of the Schwäbische Post and the Gmünder Tagespost were among the initiators and founders of rtv as a TV program supplement to the newspaper in 1961 .

In 1965, the Schwäbische Post and the Gmünder Tagespost - according to the publisher, were the first newspapers in the Federal Republic of Germany - to be printed in four colors on a newspaper rotary printing press using offset printing. This was followed later by an expansion of offset printing in the commercial sector and high-performance offset reproduction.

In 2000 the Süddeutsche Zeitungsdienst was renamed to today's SDZ Druck und Medien GmbH & Co. KG .

An online edition of the Schwäbische Post has been published since February 13, 2003.

In August 2006, SDZ Druck und Medien was the first German newspaper house to be certified according to ISO 12647 ( Process Standard Offset ) .

Since December 2011 the Schwäbische Post and the Gmünder Tagespost have been printed in the Hohenlohe-Ostalb (DHO) printing center in Crailsheim. The DHO is half owned by SDZ Druck und Medien and half by the Neue Pressegesellschaft Ulm.
