history

In the south-eastern part, the Roman road leading from Lauingen to Bopfingen led across the municipal area. The place name, first mentioned in 1144 as Merckingen , is traced back to the Alemannic conquest and the personal name Marko . On the district area, the oldest settlement layer became a row graveyard from the 4th / 5th. Discovered in the 19th century.

In 1212 the place was mentioned as Merchingen , in 1298 as Merchingen maiore . The Lords of shopping Ingen had on today as Burghaldenstrasse known Won a now abgegange castle . The local nobility moved early to Nördlinger Ries , where they came to important property through their Oettingian liege lords .

In the 15th century, the Schenkenstein taverns were the most important owners in Dorfmerkingen, and from 1461 it was the low-nobility Ahelfinger . After the Ahelfinger family died out, their property passed to a line of Woellwarth . In 1644, the Woellwarth fiefdom was largely confiscated from the Ellwangen monastery . Other landlords were the Kaisheim Monastery , the Nördlinger Spital , the Lorch Monastery and, from 1471, the Teutonic Order Kapfenburg , and Württemberg via the rule of Heidenheim .

Oettingen exercised state rule and high court, which led to numerous disputes and military executions with Ellwangen, which only ended in 1795/96 with the sale of the Ellwangian property to Oettingen-Wallerstein.

In 1570, 1624 and 1681 Dorfmerkingen was affected by fires.

In 1806 Dorfmerkingen came to Bavaria , in 1810 to the Kingdom of Württemberg ; it belonged administratively to the Oberamt Neresheim until 1938 , then to the district of Aalen . Dorfmerkingen has been part of the city of Neresheim since March 1, 1972.

coat of arms

The blazon of the coat of arms read: "In a golden red-bordered shield a broken, originally four-spoke, red wheel on the right side ."

Like all coats of arms and flags of the formerly independent municipalities, the Dorfmerkinger coat of arms as an official symbol ceased to exist with the incorporation.
