The Burg Watch Ingen is an Outbound hilltop castle in the district Dorfmerkingen the city of Neresheim in the Ostalbkreis in Baden-Württemberg .

history

The castle was built as the family seat of the Lords of Merkingen . They owned both a village ( Dorfmerkingen ) and a hamlet ( Weilermerkingen ) east of the castle. The Lords of Merkingen left their castle early on to move to the Nördlinger Ries.

description

The castle stood in the Gewann Burghalde west of the village. In this valley there are large rocks of the Dossinger valley , one of the most rugged dry valleys of the Härtsfeld. The castle was probably located on these rock formations. Further evidence of the castle are the tubs Vorderes Burgfeld, Hinteres Burgfeld, Burgholz, Hinteres Burgholz and Beim Burgholz. There are also the street names Burghaldenweg, Burgstraße and Schloßhalde.
