history

Coat of arms of the Lords of Roden

Schneggenroden Castle, which is said to have been built by Ernfried von Roden, was first mentioned in a document in 1293. The castle was sold in 1362 by Ulrich von Roden called Sneggenroden for 590 pounds Heller to Friedrich von Westerstetten called Schauche. His son, Hans von Westerstetten, sold the castle to Georg I von Woellwarth in 1401 . In 1410 he passed it on to his son Georg II, who probably had the castle rebuilt around 1434. In 1538 the castle was sold for 8500 guilders to the Woellwarth-Lauterburg line, who still own it today. The castle was badly damaged during the Thirty Years' War and had to be renovated afterwards. Today the castle is a farm.
