Laubach Castle

Laubach Castle is a renaissance- style castle in Laubach , a suburb of Abtsgmünd in the Ostalb district .

history

In 1439 a castle in Laubach built by Konrad von Woellwarth (died after 1463), which he had received from his father Georg IV von Woellwarth-Leinroden, was mentioned. The line founded by Konrad von Woellwarth-Laubach with its headquarters in Laubach Castle died out with Hans Bartholomäus von Woellwarth-Laubach in 1572. The castle was then divided between the Lords of Notthracht and the Lords of Bernhausen . In 1586 the Notthracht sold their share for 6000 guilders to Hans Sigmund von Woellwarth-Fachsenfeld, who also bought half of the Lords of Bernhausen towards the end of the 16th century. In 1599 he had a new castle built, a four-wing Renaissance building with four towers with bell domes. In 1870, the Woellwarth-Laubach family died out in the male line with the death of Karl Reinhard Freiherr von Woellwarth-Laubach . After negotiations between the Württemberg feudal council and Wilhelm Freiherr von Woellwarth-Lauterburg, the castle was assigned to Woellwarth-Lauterburg in 1871, who carried out structural measures for renovation and the creation of a terrace or earthfill in the following years. In their possession, however, the castle only served as a summer residence. In 1983 the castle, which had been in need of renovation over the years, was bought by six private individuals.
