history

Since around 1410, today's district of Unterböbingen has belonged to the Lords of Woellwarth , who built a castle there, which was surrounded by a wall. The property of the Lords of Woellwarth came in 1599 to the Ellwangian council and town bailiff Diethelm Blarer von Wartensee . The castle was sold by his son in 1652 to the Ellwangian councilor Christoph Eustach von Erolzheim. In 1689, the St. Stephan monastery in Augsburg bought the castle and the manor under the direction of Abbess Margaretha Theresia von Bodman. The abbess Maria Susanne von Sirgenstein had a chapel set up in the castle in 1695 due to the lack of a church in the village. In 1715 the estate of Unterböbingen was sold for 25,000 guilders to the priesthood of Ellwangen , who had the old castle torn down from 1763 to 1765 and the present castle, a baroque wing with volute gables , built. In the western part of the castle a teacher's and a parish apartment were accommodated, while in the eastern part a chapel was again accommodated. 1802/03 came the rule Böbingen with the castle as a result of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss to Württemberg .
