Johann Michael Zink

Johann Michael Zink (born May 16, 1694 in Eichstätt , † April 26, 1765 in Neresheim ) was a painter of the Baroque period and a musician primarily in Neresheim and the surrounding area.

Life

Johann Michael Zink was born as the son of the painter Matthias Zink (* 1665, † 1738) and his wife Anna Maria geb. Hofmann († 1740) born. He had a sister Maria Viktoria (* 1697, † 1738). Presumably he was trained in painting by his father. Since he was also active as a musician, he must have already enjoyed an apprenticeship in Eichstätt about which nothing is known. His years of traveling took him to his father's places of work in Nördlinger Ries and the Benedictine Abbey of Neresheim . In 1716 he was employed in the abbey as a valet of the abbot Amandus Fischer . In the following two and a half years of service he undertook various special trips for the abbey. He also sometimes painted, for example a sundial in the new building yard of the abbey in 1717. In 1719 he presumably supported his father with the painting of the monastery hall. After a visit by the Augsburg painter Johann Georg Bergmüller to the abbey, Johann Michael Zink became a Bergmüller student in Augsburg in autumn 1719 , where he stayed for a year. He is listed several times as a guest in the Abbey of Neresheim until 1722 and probably carried out various painting jobs during these stays. In 1721 he painted the parish church of Kösingen belonging to the abbey . On October 17th of the same year he married the daughter of the Neresheim monastery cook, Emerentiana Hoser (* 1688) in the Neresheim parish church. The couple stayed in Neresheim throughout their lives. When his son Franz Sales (* 1726; † 1787 as a violin player at the court of Eichstätt) married in 1753, Johann Michael Zink was explicitly referred to as "pictor et musicus Eystettensis" (painter and musician from Eichstätt); in the death records of the parish of Neresheim, however, he is only mentioned as a painter. The marriage resulted in four more children: Maria Anna (* 1722; † 1723), the educator and musician Fortunatus Anton (* 1724; † 1796), Luitgard Afra (* 1728; † 1762) and Leopold (* and † 1729) .
