Geographical location

Stetten is located northwest of the city center of Neresheim on the Härtsfeld , a Jura plateau in the eastern Swabian Alb . The place is in direct southern proximity to the provincial road 1084. climate

The climate on the Härtsfeld has a number of peculiarities due to the exposed high altitude of the eastern Swabian Alb. The summers are mostly hot and dry, the winters humid and very cold. The largest amounts of snow in the Ostalb district are regularly measured on the Härtsfeld.

Culture and sights

Buildings

The church in the town center was built in 1749 and is consecrated to St. Maria , St. Florian and Wendelin . In the church there are three baroque altars from the older Neresheim monastery church . Right next to the church is the former schoolhouse (built in 1783), which is now used for various events.

Between the local church and the former school house there is a 26 m deep fountain, which is festively decorated every year at Easter. Until the connection to the public sewer system and fresh water supply in the early 20th century, he ensured the supply of the local population with fresh water.

music

The Liederkranz Stetten was founded in 1922 as a men's choir under the direction of teacher Josef Rief and board member Xaver Mettenleiter. In 1997, a three-day ceremony to mark the 75th anniversary of the Liederkranz took place at the local playground. Dietmar Mettenleiter is the current director of the Liederkranz.

Regular events

The Liederkranz Stetten organizes a carnival ball every year in the former schoolhouse. A traditional maypole will take place on May 1st. At the end of May the annual village fountain festival takes place, which regularly attracts large numbers of visitors with morning pints, a rich lunch menu, coffee, cake and Vespers.

history

In 1152 Stetten was first mentioned as "Stetehim" among the possessions of the Neresheim monastery. In 1764 the Neresheim monastery ceded the place to Öttingen-Wallerstein .
