The name probably refers to an Alemannic clan leader named Tozzo . Later, a half of the village belonged to the monastery Neresheim , the other half belonged over the office Hohenlohe to the monastery Lorch and came in 1471 to the German Order of Kapfenburg .
In the 1960s, the flood retention basins HRB Dorfmerkinger Tal and HRB Nördlinger Tal were created due to the risk of flooding in Dossingen .
From 1901 to 1972 Dossingen was connected to the railway network with the Härtsfeldbahn .
