Origin of name

In the past and still with today's residents, Bargau was known under the name "Bargen". There has been several speculations regarding the name. It is most likely that the name Bargau can be traced back to Bargheim, because the name change from heim to en or au occurred more often in the Ostalb district (see Wetzgau , Welzheim ). Names of Alemannic primeval villages around 500 and 600 often end in -heim . This should also explain the name Bargau.
