The Deanery Ostalb is the largest of 25 deaneries in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart .
structure
The deanery was founded on June 1st, 2006 from the former deaneries Neresheim , Ellwangen , Schwäbisch Gmünd and Aalen in the borders of the Ostalb district. As early as 1996, the old deaneries founded a deanery association in order to better represent their interests at the district level. Today the deanery is divided into three districts: Aalen-Neresheim deanery, Ellwangen deanery and Schwäbisch Gmünd deanery . The dean's office is managed by the dean's council, which consists of representatives from all pastoral care units and various associations as well as the dean, his three deputies and the accounting officer. There is also a business committee that represents the dean's council and takes on the ongoing tasks.

Facilities
In the area of the Deanery Ostalb there are two BDKJ youth units , one in Aalen and one in Schwäbisch Gmünd. There is also a Catholic adult education Bildungswerk Ostalbkreis e. V. in Aalen, a religious education institute in Schwäbisch Gmünd in the Franziskaner and other institutions.
