The Holy Spirit Church in Ellwangen

The Heilig-Geist-Kirche in Ellwangen is a Catholic church in the north of Ellwangen , which belongs to pastoral care unit 1 of the city.

history

After the Second World War , extensive settlement areas emerged in the north of Ellwangen due to the influx of displaced people . The predominantly Catholic Christians were originally assigned to the parish of St. Vitus in the center of Ellwangen, which is spatially very distant . The desire for their own church quickly arose so that older people could also visit regularly. In the meantime, church services have also been held in the kindergartens in the settlement areas. In 1973, the Ellwangen dean's office finally decided to build a church. A prefabricated church building was erected within a very short time and was finally completed on October 25, 1975 by Auxiliary Bishop Dr. Anton Herre from Rottenburg will be consecrated in the name of the Holy Spirit Church. Almost a year passed before the parish hall of the newly formed parish of the Holy Spirit was completed. In 1983 a parsonage was added. In 2012 the church was renovated inside.

art

The sacred building, built very simply from the outside and without a tower, is particularly impressive on the inside thanks to the glass windows designed by the artist pastor Sieger Köder . They depict scenes from the Old and New Testament as well as from church history, which thematize the work of the Holy Spirit in church and salvation history.
