Anton Herre (born December 14, 1910 in Dietenheim , † September 24, 1993 in Untermarchtal ) was a German theologian . From 1970 to 1985 he was auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart and titular bishop of Calatia .

Life

Anton was born as the third of ten children of tax inspector Maximilian Herre and the housewife and mother Mathilde.

On April 6, 1935, he was in Rottenburg am Neckar to priests ordained . From 1955 to 1964 he was director of the Wilhelmsstift . On September 26, 1963 he was then appointed cathedral chapter .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on October 12, 1970 titular bishop of Calatia and auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Rottenburg (later Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart). On November 14, 1970, he and Georg Moser were consecrated bishop by Carl Joseph Leiprecht . Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops Karl Gnädinger from Freiburg and Wilhelm Sedlmeier from Rottenburg. Herre's motto was: In verbo tuo (at your word) .

For reasons of age, Herre resigned from his position as auxiliary bishop on December 31, 1985.

On September 24, 1993 Anton Herre died in the nursing home of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Vincent von Paul in Untermarchtal and was buried in the cemetery of Sülchen in Rottenburg.
