Matthäus Karrer

Matthäus Karrer (born August 2, 1968 in Ravensburg ) is auxiliary bishop in Rottenburg-Stuttgart .

Life

Matthäus Karrer grew up in Deuchelried and attended the Rupert-Neß-Gymnasium in Wangen im Allgäu . He studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . On July 15, 1995, he received the sacrament of ordination in Neuhausen auf den Fildern .

Karrer then worked as a vicar in Herrenberg and Ulm-Söflingen . From 1999 to 2002 Matthäus Karrer was youth pastor for the deaneries in Ravensburg and Friedrichshafen . In 2002 he became pastor of the parishes of St. Georg and Jakobus and St. Maria in Isny im Allgäu . In addition, Karrer has been dean of the Allgäu-Oberschwaben dean 's office since 2008 . In 2011, Matthäus Karrer became head of the main pastoral conception department in the episcopal ordinariate of the Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese and cathedral chapter .

Pope Francis appointed him titular bishop of Tunnuna and auxiliary bishop in Rottenburg-Stuttgart on March 2, 2017 . The episcopal ordination took place on May 28, 2017 in Rottenburg Cathedral. Consecrators were the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Freiburg Stephan Burger , Auxiliary Bishop Udo Bentz (Mainz), and the Auxiliary Bishops Thomas Maria Renz , Johannes Kreidler and Franz Josef Kuhnle (all Rottenburg-Stuttgart). In the German Bishops' Conference he is a member of the pastoral commission.
