Maria Queen (also Maria Queen Church ) is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Schwäbisch Gmünder district Rehnenhof-Wetzgau . It was built as the 200th post-war church in the Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese .

history

The polygonal church with the 31 meter high campanile was built in 1959/60 by Philipp Olkus . It was designed for 500 worshipers. The seats are distributed over three blocks, the floor slopes down towards the choir . After repairs became necessary in 1974, the sculptor Alfred Appenzeller redesigned the interior. The Oesterle organ on the gallery dates from 1982. In 1998 a new lighting concept was added.

Until 1970, Maria Königin was a second parish church in the district next to the parish church of St. Coloman Wetzgau . The two communities merged to form St. Maria Wetzgau-Rehnenhof . Today St. Coloman is a branch church of the parish in the pastoral care unit Limeshöhe in the deanery Ostalb .

Furnishing

During the redesign by Appenzeller, the shell limestone altar was significantly reduced in size, sediles were made from the sections , as well as a stele for the figure of Mary Queen , which was made in 1910 for the St. Coloman Church in Wetzgau. In addition, the Brozetabernacle comes from Appenzeller. The altar relics come from the martyrs Donatus and Felizitas .

A historical crucifixion group with the crucified Savior from the second half of the 16th century as well as Maria Mater Dolorosa and St. John the Evangelist , both figures from around 1500, is attached to a modern double cross on the choir wall . In the baptistery there is a figure of the coronation of Mary made of linden wood from around 1700. The wall decorations also include a baroque resurrected figure from the 1st half of the 18th century and a Way of the Cross from 1986, which comes from the chapel of the Schwäbisch Gmünder Margaritenhospital .

The window design was carried out by Josef Baumhauer using glass concrete technology.
