St. Sebastian and Walburga
St. Sebastian and Walburga (also Degenfeld village church ) is a Protestant parish church in the Schwäbisch Gmünd district of Degenfeld .
history
The structural origins of today's church go back to the late 11th century. The church was mentioned in 1471. The church was Gothicized in the 1370s . Large parts of the entablature date from this time. In 1606, when the Lords of Degenfeld sold parts of Degenfeld to Württemberg , the church became Protestant. The church always remained Protestant, but the associated cemetery was used simultaneously.
Construction work on the nave were made 1718/1719, the spire was rebuilt in 1795/1796. Interior restorations were carried out in 1936 and 1964, an exterior restoration in 1958, as well as a tower renovation with foundation securing at the church in 1976. In 1985 the portal was replaced, and in 1996/1997 an exterior restoration was carried out again.
Furnishing
The choir has a Romanesque design and an altar by Artur Meffert from 1978. The pulpit was made of wood around 1680 and provided with carving and inlay work . The font from 1982 was created by Fridolin Schurr from tuff stone . There is also a tombstone for a Wilhelm von Degenfeld from 1557 on the north wall of the choir.
