The first known mention of the parish is a Lorcher conciliation letter from 1269. The oldest components of the existing church are dated to 1283/84 and are located on the choir tower . After the fire in the rectory and church in 1477, reconstruction work began quickly. The west portal is dated to 1478. The inscription from 1486 probably marks the end of the construction and renovation work. The choir and sacristy were built in 1514/15. From 1733 to 1736 the walls of the tower were reinforced and the nave ceiling redesigned.

In 1851 the floor in the choir was changed and the tower and roof renovated, and in 1864 the church was completely restored. Another restoration was carried out between 1877 and 1879, during which, among other things, the ribbed vault was added, the windows were replaced and the choir was painted with a choir arch . During a renovation of the interior in 1901, Gothic paintings were discovered, in 1903 the previously bricked up choir center window was reopened, whereby the top of the high altar with a painting of Saint Cyriak was removed. Today (2003) this painting is considered lost.

From the turn of the 19th / 20th century In the 19th century, plans to expand the church were cherished, including architects Hans Herkommer and Hugo Schlösser . In February 1913 the church foundation council made the decision to demolish the church in favor of a new building. In the same month, the State Conservatory and the State Committee for Nature Conservation and Heritage Protection presented an expert opinion that classified the church as a model example of a Swabian village church and worthy of preservation. A new church in Neu-St. Cyriak was then made at the train station in Straßdorf.

In 1954/55 the foundations of the church were first strengthened, then in 1960 the interior of the church was restored under Albert Hänle . The last complete renovation took place from 1989 to 1992.
