St. Nikolaus is a Protestant parish church in the Schwäbisch Gmünder district of Lindach .

history

The church is mentioned for the first time in 1356 as the chapel of St. Nicholas belonging to the parish of Iggingen . However, two stones of the lost Romanesque nave , which are built into the choir today, suggest that it was built much earlier. It can be assumed that it was built around 1200. According to wood analysis, the tower dates from the 1480s. A base stone with a lead plate from 1524 refers to the construction of the Gothic choir, the keystone of which shows the coat of arms of the local noble Diemar. In times of changing denominations in the 16th and 17th centuries, the chapel decoration was partially lost. Lindach has been committed to Protestantism since 1579 - with brief interruptions .

After the church was described as dilapidated in 1560, repairs were made in 1622, among other things. Plans for a new building for the church, which had become too small, began in 1861. In 1885 Robert Reinhardt, in 1894 Conradin Walther and then in 1902 Heinrich Dolmetsch received an order for planning. It was implemented in 1903. The Romanesque nave was demolished, the tower was raised and the Gothic choir was preserved and converted into a sacristy . The exterior was renovated in 1970/71, and the interior was repaired in 1982. The sacristy was moved under the gallery and the choir made visible again.

Furnishing

The interior of the church is predominantly in the neo-Gothic style, for example the altar , the pulpit and a baptismal font . Another baptismal font, decorated with an inscription, dates from the 16th century. A crucifix with swiveling arms comes from the 15th century .

The organ comes from the workshop of Friedrich Weigle . It bears the opus number 264 and was delivered for the extension in 1903. The instrument has 12  stops on two manual works and a pedal .
